Liz Grider tied her career-high with 18 points

SMSU Earns a 75-66 Victory Over Minnesota, Crookston

CROOKSTON, MINN.:
  The Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs were lead by Sara Leidall and Liz Grider in the 75-66 conference victory over University of Minnesota, Crookston on Saturday night in Crookston, Minn.

The Mustangs earn their first conference victory as they post a 1-1 NSIC record and a 4-2 overall record.  The Golden Eagles fall to 0-2 in conference play and have a 4-4 overall record.

SMSU finished the game shooting 41.3 percent from the filed as UMC actually out-shot the Mustangs tallying a 45.5 shooting percentage. 

Southwest's Sara Leidall led the way with 19 total points with 15 of those coming in the first half of play.  Sophomore Liz Grider tied her career-high with 18 points as she was 7-for-10 from the field and connected on two three-pointers.  Grider, opposite of Leidall, score the majority of her points in the second half putting up 14 in the last 20 minutes of play.

Freshman Tori Fink also had another stellar performance as she scored 11 points on the night while grabbing four rebounds.  Kady Telschow led the Mustangs with nine rebounds and also chipped in four points.

Abby Oakland led the team in assists with four as well as adding nine points, while Megan Wittkop also contributed down the stretch as she had seven points as she was 4-for4 from the charity stripe in the last few minutes of the game.

The key for SMSU was that the out-rebounded Minnesota, Crookston 43 to 32 and 15 of those boards were offensive.  The Mustangs also only turned the ball over 10 times in the contest while forcing the Golden Eagles to have 13 turnovers.  Southwest also got to the line 25 times compared to the opponents 17 times.  The Mustangs shot 68 percent from the free-throw line.

SMSU be back in action next weekend at home facing Northern State and University of Mary on Friday and Saturday evening.
