MARSHALL, MINN.:  The top-ranked NCAA Division III team Augsburg College defeated Southwest Minnesota State 41-3 on Tuesday evening in the P.E. Gym in Marshall.  It was the season opening match for SMSU and  the first career dual match at Southwest for head coach Jesse Nelson.  Augsburg improves to 2-0 on the season and 21-3 all-time against Southwest

SMSU was open at three weights, but AC did not need the help, winning six of the seven matches that were wrestled, while picking up three major decision wins and a tech fall.  The Mustangs' lone victory of the night at 174 as Greg Frank won an 11-9 decision against Brian Fischer.  Frank used two reversals and two takedowns to aid his victory.  Tyler Johnson nearly followed Frank with a victory at 184, but a near fall in the final seconds gave Garrett Long an 8-6 victory over Johnson.

The Mustangs continue the season with their fourth open tournament of the season this weekend, traveling to the St. Cloud State Open on Saturday, Dec. 8.  SMSU's next dual meet will be on January 8 at Jamestown (N.D.).
