SMSU Announces 26 Student-Athletes to Join Football Program

Marshall, Minn.: Southwest Minnesota State University football head coach Eric Eidsness announced today the signing of 25 high school and one transfer student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and football careers at SMSU. That announcement came today on the first day student-athletes are allowed to sign National Letters of Intent.

The list includes athletes from six different states including Minnesota (11), Iowa (6), South Dakota (4), Wisconsin (3), Nebraska (1) and Texas (1). The list of signees include seven offensive linemen, five linebackers, four defensive backs, four defensive lineman, three wide receivers, one quarterback, one tight end and one running back.

The assistant coaches did a great job of bring in quality student athletes that will fit well at SMSU, Eidsness said on Wednesday. I feel that this is a great recruiting class as we were able to add a lot of size and speed to our program.

Southwest Minnesota State, located in Marshall, Minn., is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. SMSU completed the 2006 season with a 4-7 overall record under the direction of head coach Eric Eidsness, and tied for sixth place in the 10-team Northern Sun Conference with a 3-5 record. During his three seasons as head coach Eidsness has a career record of 13-20.

The Mustangs are scheduled to begin spring practice on Mar. 30.
