MARSHALL, MINN.: Former Southwest Minnesota State University safety John Kunelius has agreed to a commitment-free tryout with the Minnesota Vikings during the teams rookie mini-camp that will take place this weekend in Eden Prairie, Minn.
Following the conclusion of the National Football League Draft that took place last weekend, college players from around the country that werent drafted can sign free agent contracts or agree to a commitment-free tryouts with any of the 32 teams in the league.
Kunelius, a 6-foot-2, 228 pound native of Waterville, Minn., played the past four seasons at SMSU, including the last three at safety. He played in 33 straight games for SMSU recording 139 tackles and seven interceptions. This past season he finished fourth on the team in tackles with 48 and was second on the squad with two interceptions. He is expected to play either safety or linebacker with the Vikings this weekend.
