Sara Graf had 35 set assists, 4 kills and a .444 hitting percentage in the win over #11 Grand Valley State

#25 SMSU Shut Out #11 Grand Valley State

DENVER, COLO.: 
Southwest Minnesota State University, ranked No. 25 in the nation, pounded No. 11 Grand Valley State sweeping the Lakers 3-0 (30-26, 30-28, 30-25) in the Premier Tournament held in Denver, Colo.

The Mustangs were led by sophomore Laura Hegerle who had a match-high and career-high 16 kills in 27 attacks (.444 hitting percentage). 

With the win, SMSU improves to 5-1 overall while giving Grand Valley their first loss of the season as they also fall to 5-1.

Southwest finished the match with a team hitting percentage of .171 having 43 total kills.  They were able to force GVSU to hit just .122 as they tallied 44 kills and 28 errors on 131 attempts.

Senior Erin Contons added eight kills for the Mustangs while sophomore Leah Ashburn had seven total kills.  Sophomore Sara Graf assisted the hitting attack having 35 set assists.  She also added four kills in nine attempts for a .444 hitting percentage.

The SMSU defense was led by freshman Tiffani Burch as she compiled double-digits digs with 10.  Contons and Sarah Quiram each added nine.

The Mustangs will be back in action again tomorrow at 1 p.m. CDT as they take on #14 West Texas A&M on the campus of Regis University in Denver, Colo.
