SIOUX FALLS, SD: The No. 7 ranked Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs downed No. 13 Augustana College in three games (30-27, 30-21, 30-23) on Tuesday night in Sioux Falls, SD. SMSU improves to 8-2 overall with the win, while Augustana falls to 10-3 on the season.
Senior Erin Contons led the Mustangs as she compiled 20 kills on 39 attempts for a team-high .410 hitting percentage. Two other SMSU hitters also recorded double-digit kills as freshman Krystal Schwanke tallied 11 kills with only two errors on 22 total attempts for a .409 hitting percentage and sophomore Laura Hegerle added 11 kills and tallied 14 digs in the contest.
The Mustangs had four players with double-digit digs as sophomore setter Sara Graf led the way with a career-high 17 digs. She also set up the hitters recording 46 set assists and allowed the team to have an overall .299 hitting percentage. Contons and Hegerle each added 14 digs, while junior Sarah Quiram dug-up 13.
SMSU out-blocked Augustana 11-to-six and were able to force the Vikings to hit .129 on the night as Augie ended with 45 kills with 25 errors on 155 attempts at the net.
The Mustangs will be back in action this weekend as they host conference opponents Northern State University and University of Mary. SMSU will face Northern State on Friday night at 7 p.m. and then match up against Mary on Saturday at 4 p.m. Game will be played at the PE Gym in Marshall, Minn.
