No. 7 SMSU Defeat Northern State in Four Games

MARSHALL, MINN.: 
No. 7-ranked Southwest Minnesota State was led by stellar performance from senior Tricia Ingvalson who had a team-high .484 hitting percentage tallying 17 kills to help lead the Mustangs to a 3-1 victory over Northern State University (30-17, 25-30, 30-16, 30-15).

Southwest improves to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference while Northern State falls to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC.

Senior Erin Contons led the team with a double-double performance of 21 kills and 21 digs.  Sophomore Leah Ashburn added 11 kills and had a team high six blocks in the contest, while sophomore Laura Hegerle tallied nine kills for Southwest.

The Mustangs had five players earn double-digit digs in the victory.  Sophomore Sarah Quiram led the way with 26 digs.  Contons had 21, sophomore Lauren Swain added 15 and sophomore Sara Graf had 13, while Hegerle rounded it out with 10. 

Southwest had a 2.32 team hitting percentage, recording 67 kills with 23 errors in 190 attacks.  Northern was held to just a .027 hitting percentage.  The Mustangs out-blocked the opponent nine to five in the match.

SMSU will be back in action tomorrow when they host conference opponent University of Mary at 4 p.m. in the PE Gym in Marshall, Minn.
