Sophomore Leah Ashburn led SMSU with a career-high .619 hitting percentage.

No. 7 SMSU Sweeps NSIC Foe University of Mary

MARSHALL, MINN.: 
No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State University recorded a .322 team hitting percentage to help led them to a sweep over NSIC foe, University of Mary.  Game scores were 30-26, 30-24 and 30-22.

SMSU wins it fourth straight match and improves to 10-2 overall and remain undefeated in the NSIC with a 3-0 record.  Mary falls to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC with the loss.

SMSU's sophomore Leah Ashburn recorded a career-high .619 hitting percentage in the match as she had 13 kills with zero errors in 21 attacks.  Senior Erin Contons led the team with 14 kills and also recorded 13 digs in the match.  Senior Tricia Ingvalson tallied double-digit kills as she had 11 with zero errors in 26 attempts (.426). 

SMSU's setter Graf set up the hitting force as she recorded 47 set assists.  Southwest had a .322 hitting percentage with 58 total kills while causing the Marauders to hit just .123 percent in the match.

The Mustangs had a great defensive effort as five players had double digit digs.  Leading the way was sophomore Sarah Quiram with 16.  Contons and Lauren Swain added 13, while Sara Graf and Laura Hegerle had 12 and 11 respectively.

Southwest will play its next match at home on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.  The Mustangs will face No. 23 Minnesota State University, Mankato in a non-conference match-up.
