FAYETTE, IOWA:
Southwest Minnesota State freshman Ellen Diekemper scored two goals, the first two of her career, to lead SMSU to a 3-1 non-conference road win over Upper Iowa on Saturday in Fayette, Iowa.

The victory was the first of the season for SMSU and improves its record to 1-6-1 overall, while Upper Iowa drops to 5-5 on the season.

Upper Iowa scored the game's first goal in the 21st minute, but SMSU answered back just five minutes later as Diekemper scored his first carer goal on assists from Emily Barns and Heather Anderson.

Kate Voigt then put SMSU up for good with a goal in the 44th minute to give SMSU a 2-1 lead, before Diekemper finished off the scoring with a goal from an assist by Jessica Curl to push the lead to 3-1.

Mustang goalkeeper Kayla Borstad earned the victory in goal with 10 saves.

SMSU will conclude non-conference play tomorrow afternoon at Winona State beginning at 1 p.m.
