No. 4 SMSU Falls to No. 3 Minnesota Duluth in Three

MARSHALL, MINN.:  The No. 4 ranked Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs fell in three games to No. 3 Minnesota Duluth (27-30, 32-34, 25-30).  The Bulldogs's had three players record double-digit kills in the win as they were led by Danielle Breckstands 14 kills performance.

UMD won their 14th straight match and improved to 16-1 overall while SMSU falls to 13-3 overall with the loss.

Minnesota Duluth out-hit the Mustangs as they tallied a .221 hitting percentage while the Mustangs had a .184 average.  SMSU was led by Laura Hegerle who had a strong performance knocking down a career-high 18 kills and having a team-high .438 hitting percentage.

SMSU's Erin Contons recorded 11 kills but was hurt by errors have 11 errors as well (.000 percentage).  Leah Ashburn added seven kills, while Krystal Schwanke and Tricia Ingvalson each had five.

Southwest was led in dig by setter Sara Graf who had 14 digs and recorded her 8th double-double of the season with 43 set assists as well.

SMSU's Sarah Quiram had 12 digs with Erin Contons and Lauren Swain had 11 and 10 respectively.

The Mustangs were also hurt by service errors in the match as they committed 11 total compared to UMD's three.  UMD out-blocked the Mustangs 11-to-9.5 in the contest.

SMSU will be back in action this weekend at home when they face Upper Iowa University on Friday at 7 p.m. and take on Winona State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
