MARSHALL, MINN.:  
No. 11 ranked Southwest Minnesota State swept No. 23 Wayne State College (30-22, 30-28, 30-20) in their opening home and conference match.  The Mustangs improve to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC, while Wayne State falls to 7-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

The victory was a team effort for SMSU as three players recorded double-digit kills and three recorded double-digit digs. 

Leading the Mustangs in the hitting attack was senior Erin Contons who tallied 17 kills, with five errors on 43 attempts.  Sophomore Leah Ashburn had a .435 hitting percentage in the game as she racked up 13 kills.  Sophomore Laura Hegerle had the best hitting percentage on the team, a .522, as she recorded 12 kills in 23 attempts without any errors.

On defense the trio of junior Sarah Quiram, sophomore Sara Graf and Erin Contons each recorded double-digit digs.  Quiram had the team-high of 14 while Contons added 13 and Graf had 12.  Graf also recorded 47 set assists in the match.

As a team the Mustangs had a .323 hitting percentage compared to WSC's .127 hitting percentage.  SMSU had 57 kills, 16 error on 127 attacks in the game. Southwest also out-blocked Wayne State eight to five in the match.

SMSU will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 11 when they travel to face non-conference opponent, No. 17 Augustana College.  The game be played in Sioux Falls, S.D. with a start time of 7 p.m.
