SMSU Drops Dual to St. John's

MARSHALL, MINN.: St. John's University defeated Southwest Minnesota State 38-6 on Wednesday evening in a non-conference dual meet in Marshall. The loss drops SMSU to 0-3 in duals for the season, while St. John's improves to 8-10.

Tyler Johnson won by fall at 197 for the Mustangs, pinning Jake Evenson in 1:17. That was all SMSU would score on the night. However, freshmen L.J. Franzoni at 141 and Logan McAlpin at 157 both took their matches to overtime before losing by decision.

Sam Morse pinned Ed Reno in 4:13 at 133 for the Johnnies' only win by fall on the evening.

SMSU opens Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Saturday, Jan. 19 when it hosts the University of Mary at 2 p.m.
