SIOUX FALLS, S.D.: Augustana scored two goals in the first 14 minutes and held on for a 2-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday in Sioux Falls. The win for Augustana keeps the VIkings in third place in the NSIC.
SMSU was out-shot 29-15 in the game, including 14-10 in shots on goal.
Kendra Olchefske had a career-high 12 saves for SMSU in the goal, including seven in the second half.
Tatum Borstad led Southwest with a career-high shot attempts, including four on goal.
Jena Tiemeyer and
Heather Anderson also tied career highs with three shot attempts each.
AC got on the board just 5:49 into the day as Lisa Shirk scored on an assist from Katelyn Ley. The Vikings scored less than eight minutes later as Kayla Peek found the back of the net, assisted by Katie Shandri. Olchefske stopped the final 11 shots she faced during the game.
Southwest had opportunities to get back into the game, including a flurry of four shot attempts during a five minute stretch after the 34:00 mark. The Mustangs also had opportunities in the second half as Augie goalkeeper Mikhaila Baltes in the final seven minutes of the game.
The Mustangs will wrap up a seven-game road trip next weekend as they travel to Winona State on Saturday, Oct. 25 and Upper Iowa on Sunday.
