Mustangs Fight Peacocks, Snow in Loss

Box Score

FAYETTE, IOWA -
The Southwest Minnesota State soccer team lost 4-1 on Sunday to Upper Iowa in Fayette on a windy, snowy afternoon.  For the Mustangs, they drop to 1-14 overall and 1-10 in the NSIC.  The Peacocks improve to 8-8-2 overall and 5-5-1 in the NSIC.

Both teams played back-and-forth for much of the first half and SMSU outshot UIU 9-8 during the first period, but Upper Iowa's Jolene Ridenhour scored with less than three minutes left before the intermission to put the Peacocks ahead 1-0.

UIU's Jennifer Lee added two goals and Amy Campbell added another, before Tatum Borstad scored her first goal of the season from 12 yards out on an assist from Courtney McCarthy to put SMSU on the board.

Kendra Olchefske made 10 saves in the loss.

The Mustangs will return home from a seven-game road trip on Friday, Oct. 31 for a 3 p.m. start against Minnesota State Moorhead at Mustang Field.  A previously scheduled high school football playoff game is the reason the game will not be played at the Regional Event Center.
