Box Score

MARSHALL, MINN. -
Heather Holmes scored two goals in the first 12 minutes as Southwest Minnesota State cruised to a 4-0 victory over Minnesota, Crookston on Sunday in Marshall.  It was the final game of the season for both teams.  SMSU wrapped up the year with a two-game winning streak and an overall record of 3-14-0 and 3-10-0 in the NSIC.  The two-game winning streaks is SMSU's first multi-game winning streak since the Mustangs won five in a row in 2004.

Kelly Fitzgerald and Ashley Elbers also scored for the Mustangs on Sunday.

Kendra Olchefske made five saves for her second shutout of the year.

Holmes scored her first goal just 2:02 into the game as Brittany Oehlerking passed the ball over the UMC defense, giving Holmes a breakaway from 40 yards out.  Holmes dribbled the ball down to 12 yards out before she put kicked the ball to the left of UMC goalkeeper Anna Ogaard for her first goal of the year.

Her second goal came at 11:08 after Ogaard was unable to control Jenna Perske's header off Elbers' corner kick.  Holmes tapped in the loose ball, unassisted, from the left side of the net.

The Mustangs had six total shot attempts in the first half, including four on goal.

Both teams went scoreless for nearly 40 minutes, before Fitzgerald headed Elbers' corner kick in at 49:30.  It was Fitzgerald's fifth goal of her freshman campaign.

SMSU continued to pressure UMC backup goalkeeper Leyla Castillo, who replaced Ogaard at the half, recording six shot attempts in the next 12 minutes and three offsides.

Elbers scored her first goal of the season at 69:00 from 20 yards out on the right side, unassisted.

Southwest had season highs with 19 shot attempts and 12 shots on goal.
