Erin Dickhausen ties the school record for career stolen bases

Mustangs Blow Out Shippensburg for Second Win of the Day

OSCEOLA, FLA.:
The Southwest Minnesota State softball team got its offense going as it defeated Shippensburg (Pa.) 10-1 in SMSU's second game on Wednesday at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida.

The Mustangs knocked out 12 hits, highlighted by a three-run home run by Amanda Tucci in the second inning.  Tucci, Jessica Paczosa, Kristin Braden, Erin Dickhausen and Andrea Fennern each had two hits to aid the victory.

SMSU scored one run in the first inning, five in the second and four in the fourth.  Angie Rohne earned the win on the mound, throwing all five innings.  Shippensburg scattered seven hits.

The Mustangs scored its first run in the first inning off a RBI single from Erin Dickhausen which scored Jessica Paczosa who started off the inning with a single.  SMSU then put together a big second inning, Emily Theno started it off with a single up the middle, which was followed by another single from Andrea Fennern.  Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch which then allowed Kristin Braden's single up the middle to drive in two runs.  One batter later, Amanda Tucci hit her second home run on the season to drive in three runs.

In the fourth inning, the Mustangs continued the offensive power scoring four more runs.  Fennern started off the inning with a walk, which was followed by a Paczosa single.  Braden then got the first out of the inning but received a RBI on the play.  Dickhausen followed that up with a RBI single for the second run of the inning.  After a single from Tucci, Amanda Optaz hit a single through the right side to score two more runs.

SMSU's Kristin Braden and Amanda Tucci each had three RBI which Amanda Opatz had two.

Erin Dickhausen tied the career record for stolen bases as she had two in the game.  She has a career total of 64 stolen bases tying the record held by Melissa Smith (1995-98).

SMSU, now 7-3 on the season, will be back in action tomorrow at 8 a.m (CDT) against No. 5 nationally ranked Lock Haven (Pa.).

Southwest wraps up its Florida trip on Thursday with two games, beginning at 8 a.m. against Lock Haven (Pa.) and C.W. Post (N.Y.).
