SMSU is in Orlando, Fla., for its spring break trip and faces Michigan Tech this morning and Radford (Va.) tomorrow on Friday, Mar. 14.

Scouting the Opponent(s):
Michigan Tech: The Huskies are 11-5 during the 2007-08 season (with two matches in Florida that are unavailable).  Silvia Oliveros is 10-3 at No. 2 singles and 14-4 overall.  Samantha Jang-Stewart is 9-2 at No. 4 singles.  Doubles pair of Nicole Kirch and Amy Palmgren is 8-4 at No. 1.  Oliveros and Nathalia Rondelli are 9-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Radford (Va.): The NCAA Division I Highlanders are 3-5 this spring.  Paige Lindsley has the team's best singles record of 5-2 between Nos. 2 and 3.  Ivana Tomaic is 5-3 at No. 1 singles.  No. 2 doubles pair of Cassandra Price and Lindsley is 4-4.

Mustang Update:
The Southwest Minnesota State tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to the 11th-ranked NCAA III team, Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Mar. 8 in St. Peter.  The loss dropped SMSU to 4-5 overall this spring, while GAC is now 9-2.

SMSU lost the top two doubles flights by scores of 8-5, while two of the singles matches went to three sets.  Ananda Ferrari dropped No. 1 singles to Christine Reimer, 6-0, 5-7, 11-9.  Diana Naatz lost at No. 4 singles to Alison Utke, 2-6, 6-4, 10-3.

Ferrari Named NSIC Player of the Week
Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis player Ananda Ferrari was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 12 after the announcement came from the conference office in St. Paul.  It was the first time the sophomore has earned honors from the NSIC, as she transferred to SMSU during the fall of 2007.

Ferrari, a native of Campinas, Brazil, went 3-0 over the weekend at No. 1 singles for SMSU.  She defeated Kate Maland of Minnesota State, Mankato 6-3, 6-0 on Friday.  On Saturday against Bethel, Ferrari beat Andrea Beegle 6-1, 6-2, before defeating Rose Phippen of Minnesota Duluth on Sunday, 3-6, 6-2, 10-7.  She also won a No. 1 doubles match on Saturday with teammate Ramona Lerch against Bethel.

Head Coach George Seldat:
George Seldat is in his 14th year as head coach of the SMSU tennis team.  He has a career record of 63-127 overall and 27-32 in NSIC matches.
