MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.:
Jared Pick tossed 5.2 solid innings in game two to give Southwest Minnesota State a split with Winona State on Friday at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. After dropping the first game 5-1, SMSU won game two 6-3. The Mustangs are now 9-7 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC, while WSU is 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC.

Pick allowed three hits, three runs, just one earned, and struck out four to earn the victory.

WSU jumped on top early with two unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning.  The Mustangs finally got their bats going in the top of the fourth with four hits and four runs, aided by a two-run Dome Double by Derick Swenson to give SMSU a 3-2 lead. Tony Rislov and Greg Laughlin also had RBI singles in the inning.

Southwest stretched its lead to 6-2 in the sixth as Swenson's second double of the game found the left-center gap to score Andy Williamson followed by another RBI single by Laughlin.

Pick allowed a run in the bottom of the sixth, before giving way to Brandon Wilhelmi, who pitched the final 1.1 innings and earned his second save this spring.

Winona State scored three runs in the fourth and two in the sixth for a come-from-behind victory over Southwest Minnesota State in game one.

Adam Schrader allowed just two earned runs in the first five innings, but a two-out, two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth by Sam Henriksen put the game away.  Schrader pitched 5.2 innings and struck out seven to take the loss.

WSU's Bryan Ruff baffled the Mustang hitters, allowing just a leadoff single to start the game by Derik Swenson.  Ruff struck out seven, allowed one unearned run and walked one for the win, pitching a complete game.

Game two is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
