KISSIMMEE, FLA.: Angie Rohne earned her first career win tossing 5.1 innings allowing just one run on six hits in leading Southwest Minnesota State to a 3-2 victory over Northwood University (Mich.) at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The victory was the first of the season for SMSU moving its record to 1-1 overall.
Jessica Paczosa had two hits and an RBI to help lead the SMSU offense while Erin Dickhausen collected two hits as well.
The Mustangs scored their first run in the second inning as freshman Katie Turner led off with a single through the left side which was followed by a walk from Rohne and then Paczosa had a base hit to drive in the run.
SMSU then scored one run in the third and one more in the fourth.
In the third inning Dickhausen led off with a single up the middle and then advanced two bases after a couple Northwood wild pitches. With two outs Amanda Burhart singled to center field to bring in Southwest's second run of the game. The Mustangs scored their third and final run in the fourth inning after Andrea Fennern reached base on a walk and Pacsoza reached after getting hit by the pitch. Fennern was able to score as she stole third base, and Pacsoza stole second, and then Fennern used her speed to cross home plate on the throw to try and get Pacsoza out.
Northwood tried to made a come back in the sixth inning as they scored two runs on four hits but the Mustangs held on for the victory.
SMSU will face Wayne State (Mich.) at 10 a.m. CDT and St. Xavier (Ill.) at 2p.m. CDT on Sunday, Mar. 9.
