Mustangs Sweep Northern to Best Regular Season NSIC Finish Since 1997

MARSHALL, MINN.: The Southwest Minnesota State tennis team wrapped up its conference season on Monday with a 9-0 win over Northern State at Legion Field in Marshall.  SMSU is now 9-9 overall and 5-2 in the NSIC, while Northern State drops to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the NSIC.  The 5-2 regular season finish in the conference is Southwest's best since going 5-1 in 1997.

All six Mustang individuals won in straight sets, while the doubles scores were 8-2 at No. 1, 8-1 and No. 2 and 8-2 at No. 3.  No. 1 singles player Ananda Ferrari finished the conference regular season with a 6-1 record in the NSIC and is 12-6 overall this spring.  Her 12-6 overall record is the best No. 1 singles record at SMSU since Heda Hlavova went 13-2 in 1997.

SMSU will close out the regular season on Thursday, Apr. 17 with a 2:30 p.m. non-conference match against Sioux Falls (S.D.), scheduled to be played at Marshall High School.
