SMSU Falls to First Place Upper Iowa

OWATONNA, MINN.: The Southwest Minnesota State tennis team lost 6-3 to first place Upper Iowa in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match on Saturday in Owatonna, Minn. SMSU is now 7-9 overall and 4-2 in the NSIC, while UIU improves to 6-7 overall and 3-0 in the NSIC.

The Peacocks swept doubles, making things difficult for Southwest. Individually, the Mustangs earned three singles wins on the day. Ananda Ferrari won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles over Jennifer Bradford. Danielle Hildebrandt picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles, while Trisha Baldwin won a long match 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 at No. 6. Diana Naatz and Cailey Grupe each lost hard-fought matches at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, both losing in three sets.

SMSU is scheduled to play St. Benedict's at St. Joseph, Minn., on Tuesday, Apr. 8 at 4 p.m.
