Mustangs Pick Up Non-Conference Win Over Augustana; Home Opener Tomorrow

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.: The Southwest Minnesota State baseball team picked up a non-conference road victory on Tuesday afternoon downing Augustana College 14-6 in Sioux Falls, S.D. 

The victory lifts SMSU's record to 14-9 on the season.  The two teams will meet again tomorrow in Marshall for the Mustags' 2008 home opener.  First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m. at Alumni Field.

In Tuesday's victory SMSU jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run single by Derek West.  The Vikings tied the game at 2-2 and the game remained that until the fourth when Lex Reinke snapped the tie with a solo home run. SMSU pushed the lead to 5-2 until Augustana trimmed the lead to5-4 on a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

The Mustangs put the game away in the sixth inning with the big hit coming from #Greg Laughlin# who delivered a three-run double.  Laughlin finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI while West also collected three hits and four RBI. 

Andrew Kinney added two hits and three RBI while Reinke finished the day with two hits and two RBI.

Adam Schrader picked up the win in relief for SMSU tossing 1 2/3 innings in relief of Aaron Johnson who started for the Mustangs and lasted 3 1/3 innings allowing four hits and two runs.

SMSU and Augustana will meet up tomorrow afternoon for the Mustang home opener at 2:30 p.m. for a nine-inning game.
