Mustangs Edge St. Ben's 5-4

ST. JOSEPH, MINN.: The Southwest Minnesota State tennis team defeated the College of St. Benedict 5-4 on Tuesday in St. Joseph in non-conference action.  SMSU is now 8-9 overall, while CSB drops to 11-5 this spring.

Ananda Ferrari and Ramona Lerch set the pace at No. 1 doubles, winning 8-4 over Megan Wrobel and Melissa Kampa.  Danielle Hildebrandt and Cailey Grupe followed with an 8-3 win at No. 2.  However, CSB got on the board, edging Trisha Baldwin and Amy Daniels 9-8 at No. 3, winning the tiebreaker 7-3.

Ferrari continued her big day, winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles over Kampa.  The match came down to No. 5 and No. 6 singles as SMSU's freshmen won both matches.  Cailey Grupe won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 and Trisha Baldwin won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6.

The Mustangs will travel to Vermillion, S.D., for matches against South Dakota and Augustana (S.D.) on Saturday.
