MARSHALL, Minn. - Augustana's Jessie Huff scored a pair of goals and the Vikings scored two goals in the first eight minutes to pick up a 4-1 conference win over Southwest Minnesota State Saturday afternoon at the Regional Event Center in Marshall, Minn.
Augie improves to 5-5-5 (2-2-4 NSIC), while SMSU drops to 0-11-0 (0-8-0 NSIC).
The Vikings' Katie Shandri opened scoring quickly, finding the back of the net 1:30 into the contest. Just under seven minutes later, Augie's Kayle Peek took a pass from Kate Timmons to give her Vikings a 2-0 advantage.
But SMSU rallied, scoring its first goal in three games when
Heather Anderson pushed one in from the left side to cut the deficit to one.
Courtney McCarthy was credited with assist.
Huff was responsible for stretching the Augie lead to three, scoring a pair of goals in the second half.
Augie outshot SMSU 21-7. Mustang goalkeeper
Kendra Olchefske made seven saves in the loss. Viking keepers Melissa Fowler and Amanda Wagner combined for three saves.
Anderson led the Mustangs with three shots--two of them on goal.
SMSU will host Wayne State tomorrow at 1 p.m.
