MARSHALL, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State University will look to snap a four-game losing streak when they travel to Mankato, Minn., to face the No. 5-ranked Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks on Saturday, Oct. 24, starting at 2 p.m. at MSU's Blakeslee Stadium. It's SMSU's third game versus a nationally ranked opponent this season.
SMSU, 3-5 overall, 2-5 NSIC, 1-4 NSIC South, began the season 3-1, but has lost five of its last six games and is coming off a 29-17 home loss to Concordia.
MSU, 8-0 overall, 7-0 NSIC, 4-0 NSIC South, is off to its best start in school history and is currently on a nine-game home winning streak dating to last season. The Mavericks are also ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Super Region 3 rankings.
The game features two of the top scoring offenses in the country with MSU ranked eighth (40.3), while SMSU is tied for 20th (34.7). MSU also enters the game ranked No. 1 in the country in turnover margin at plus-1.88 per game. MSU has forced opponents into 20 interceptions and seven fumbles.
