MARSHALL, Minn. - Upper Iowa scored a pair of goals in the second half en route to picking up a 3-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State Saturday afternoon at the Regional Event Center in Marshall, Minn.
UIU improves to 10-7-3 (4-4-2 NSIC), while SMSU drops to 1-12-0 (1-9-0 NSIC).
The Peacocks opened up a scoreless game midway through the first half when Emily Gielau took a deflected shot and found the back of the net to give her squad a 1-0 advantage.
UIU tacked on another goal nine minutes into the second half as Shaina Marnell took a pass from Valeria Ptasinkski to score her sixth goal of the season. The Peacocks' Liz Kaluzinski moved her team to a 3-0 lead 20 minutes later when she pushed one in from the left side. Lauren Verhulst set up the score and was credited with the assist.
SMSU did gain some steam offensively in the contest, recording 13 shots to UIU's 18.
Courtney McCarthy led the Mustangs with a team-high fives shots.
