MOORHEAD, Minn. - Minnesota State Moorhead scored with just over five minutes remaining to break away from a 1-1 tie and drop Southwest Minnesota State 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Moorhead, Minn.
SMSU, which will not qualify for this year's postseason Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference eight-team tournament, finishes its season 2-14-0 (2-11-0 NSIC). MSUM improves to 7-10-1 (4-9-0 NSIC).
Neither squad managed to get on the board in the first half, but MSUM broke the 0-0 tie just two minutes into the first half when Ashley Gallegos pushed one in.
SMSU answered, however, in the 80th minute when
Tatum Borstad found the back of the net off a penalty kick to knot the contest at 1-1. The score was Borstad's second of the season.
Jordyn Wallenborn delivered the game winning goal for the Dragons, taking a pass from Myrt van Wijngaarde to give her team a decisive 2-1 advantage with 5:19 remaining.
Borstad led the Mustang with two shots on the afternoon.
