Setting the Stage: Southwest Minnesota State University opens its 2009 six-game home season on Saturday, Sept. 5 hosting Black Hills State University from Spearfish, S.D., for the third annual Ag Bowl. Kickoff set for 6 p.m. at Mattke Field at the Regional Event Center in Marshall. Saturday's game is the first official night game at the REC and is one of four night games scheduled this season. The game is also SMSU's lone non-conference game of the year.
SMSU is 1-0 on the season, 1-0 NSIC, after last weekend's 48-10 road victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
BHSU, a member of NAIA, competes in the Dakota Athletic Conference and will be playing its first game of the season. In 2008, the Yellow Jackets finished 6-4 overall and placed fourth in the DAC with a 4-3 mark. BHSU was picked to finish third this season in the eight-team league according to the preseason coaches' poll.
