SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Winona State got two goals from Lauren Sturdivant to defeat the Southwest Minnesota State soccer team 4-0 Friday evening at the Northern Sun Festival in Sioux Falls, S.D.
WSU moves to 2-3, while SMSU drops to 0-2.
Kelly Fitzgerald led SMSU with five shots; Fitzgerald,
Maggy Rouse and
Courtney McCarthy each had a shot on goal for the Mustangs.
Goalkeeper Kenda Olchefske tallied 15 saves in her second loss of the season.
WSU broke a scoreless tie just before the end of the first period when Meagan Kline took a corner kick from Cori Beard and found the back of the net in the 43rd minute. Sturdivant tacked on a pair of quick goals 11 minutes into the second half, scoring in the 56th minute and following it with another goal two minutes later. Brittany Karlovich netted WSU's final goal of the game.
The Warriors outshot the Mustangs 32-9. SMSU managed just three shots on goal in the loss.
SMSU will finish play at the Northern Sun Festival on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Minnesota Duluth.
