Setting the Stage: Southwest Minnesota State concludes its three-game homestand, its longest since 2006, this Saturday, Sept. 19 hosting Upper Iowa University in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South Division game at Mattke Field at the Regional Event Center. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. and is one of just two home games starting in the afternoon for SMSU this season.
SMSU is 2-1 on the season, 1-1 NSIC, after losing its first game of the season on Saturday night to No. 9 Minnesota Duluth 34-27.
UIU, 2-1 overall, 1-1 NSIC, opened its home season last Saturday with a 42-35 come-from-behind overtime victory over Northern State. The Peacocks trailed 35-14 with 10:28 to play in the third quarter before scoring the game's final 28 points.
