Setting the Stage: Southwest Minnesota State University concludes a two-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference road trip on Saturday, Oct. 3 taking on Winona State University at Midwest Wireless Stadium in Winona, Minn. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
SMSU will be looking to snap an eight-game losing streak at Winona State and earn the program's first win in Winona since Nov. 7, 1992.
The Mustang offense enters the game ranked fifth in the nation in scoring (44.2) and sixth in passing offense (332.8). The WSU rush offense (180.8) ranks 39th in country and 52nd in total offense (390.6).
SMSU, 3-2 overall, 2-2 NSIC, 1-1 NSIC South, suffered a 42-39 loss to No. 22 Wayne State on Saturday in Wayne, Neb. SMSU led 32-28 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats rallied with two touchdowns to take a 10-point lead. SMSU scored with under a minute left in the game but the Mustangs' on-side kick failed and WSC?held on for the victory.
WSU, 3-2 overall, 2-2 NSIC, 1-1 NSIC South, dropped a 34-13 home game to No. 7 Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday. The loss snapped WSU's 19-game home winning streak and also ended WSU's 35-game home NSIC winning streak.
