MARSHALL, Minn. - After a scoreless first half, the MSU Moorhead soccer team found the back of the goal to defeat Southwest Minnesota State 1-0 in Saturday's Northern State Intercollegiate Conference game.
MSUM improves to 1-10-1 (1-6-1 NSIC) while SMSU moves to 1-8-2 (1-6-2 NSIC).
Both teams remained scoreless through the first half with SMSU taking 15 shots to MSU Moorhead's five. SMSU finished with 25 shots while MSUM took 15.
MSUM's goal came after 79 minutes from Amanda Wurdeman on an assist from Ashley Swanson.
SMSU's closest attempt at a goal came from
Kelly Fitzgerald after 62 minutes of action when her shot bounced off the top of the goal.
Maggy Rouse led the Mustangs with six shots and four shots on goal. Fitzgerald also notched six shots for the Mustangs.
SMSU will be in action again tomorrow when they take on NSIC opponent, Minnesota Crookston at 1 p.m. in Marshall.
