MARSHALL, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State's
Maggy Rouse scored three minutes into overtime to lead the Mustangs to a 2-1 overtime victory over Minot State (N.D.) in a non-conference game Wednesday night in Marshall.
SMSU improves to 1-1 overall, while MSU drops to 3-2-1.
Kelly Fitzgerald scored SMSU's first goal at the 35 minute mark from the right side of the goal, and she was assisted by Rouse. FItzgerald's goal was the first of the season for the Mustangs and the eight of her career.
Minot State answered back with a goal from Melissa Grant on a free kick in the 62nd minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Rouse's goal was the first in her career.
Kendra Olchefske recorded a game-high 12 saves for SMSU to earn the victory in goal.
By defeating Minot State, SMSU earned its first win of the season, and will open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play when they take on Concordia St. Paul, Saturday at noon in Marshall.
