MARSHALL, Minn. - The No. 5 Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team will take on Minnesota State University, Mankato in its home opener this Saturday. The Mustangs will partake in the Smokefest festivities when they play Minnesota State on Saturday, Sept. 18. First serve is set for 3 p.m. at the P.E. Gym.

Setting the scene: The Mustangs head into the home opener owners of an 8-1 record on the season. Southwest Minnesota State is off to its best start in school history. The Mustangs were 7-0 until they dropped the championship game of the Colorado Premier Challenge against Wayne State, who was also unbeaten. The last team to start a season undefeated was the 2004 team (6-0). Before them, the best start in school history belonged to the 1978 team who started 5-0.
