MARSHALL, Minn. – No. 25 Winona State (12-3-1, 10-1-0 NSIC) scored in the 97th minute off a rebound to defeat Southwest Minnesota State (5-9-1, 4-6-1 NSIC) 2-1 in overtime on Sunday afternoon in Marshall.
Winona State is also ranked fourth in the Central Region rankings.
After playing to a scoreless tie in the first half, Winona State got on the board in the 59th minute on a goal by Sarah Colleran.
The Mustangs were able to tie the match when
Kelly Fitzgerald netted her sixth goal of the season on a header with the assist being credited to
Kendra Olchefske. Fitzgerald's goal marks her single season career-high.
SMSU's
Sonya Smith faced 28 shots while making 10 saves in the match. Winona State's Anna Belpedio earned the win making five saves.
The Warriors were able to come through in overtime when Melissa Sellier put home a rebound after Katy Soliday rang a shot off the post to give Winona State the 2-1 win.
Today was senior day for SMSU. Five Mustangs laced up the cleats for their final game at the Regional Event Center.

Southwest Minnesota State will play its final regular season matches next weekend taking on Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, Oct. 29, beginning at 1 p.m. SMSU will then take on Bemidji State at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Bemidji, Minn.
