Three first half goals lead the Golden Bears past the Mustangs

ST. PAUL, Minn. –
Concordia University, St. Paul scored three first half goals to eventually beat the Mustangs 4-1 on Sunday. The Mustangs fall to 2-3, 1-1 in NSIC play.

The Golden Bears jumped ahead early in the game scoring in the 7th minute of play. The Mustangs were unable to respond and at the end of the first half CU had managed two more goals putting them ahead 3-0.

All three goals scored in the first half came from CU's Amanda Olsen.

To start the second half, the Golden Bears scored another early goal to put the Mustangs at an even larger deficit 4-0.

SMSU's Brittany Oehlerking got SMSU on the board in the 74th minute breaking the shutout, scoring on a penalty kick.

SMSU goalkeeper Sonya Smith made 7 saves, facing 11 shots on goal, while the Golden Bears took18 shots in the match.

SMSU will return home next weekend to continue conference play taking on the University of Mary at 12 p.m. at the Regional Event Center.
