MARSHALL, Minn.- Autumn Hayes scored two goals to lead Southwest Minnesota State to a 2-1 victory over the University of Mary on Saturday afternoon in Marshall.
The win marks the first victory for the Mustangs over the Marauders in 10 all-time meetings
Hayes scored in the 32nd minute off of an assist by
Kelly Fitzgerald to put the Mustangs up 1-0 into the halftime break.
Hayes then scored an unassisted goal in the 59th minute to give SMSU a 2-0 advantage.
The University of Mary scored late in the contest to trim the lead to 2-1, but SMSU was able to hold on and earn the victory.
Sonya Smith picked up the victory in goal for SMSU and is now 3-3 on the season.
SMSU will continue conference play tomorrow with a 1 p.m. match versus Northern State at the Regional Event Center.
