Corona's two goals lifts the Mustangs past Northern State

MARSHALL, Minn
- Vanesa Corona scored two goals and one assist to lead Southwest Minnesota State to a 3-0 victory over Northern State on Sunday.

SMSU (4-3-0, 3-1-0 NSIC) put together its first two game winning streak since 2008. It was also SMSU's first win over Northern State since 2004.

Kelly Fitzgerald scored a goal along with an assist, while Sonya Smith earned her third shutout of the season making 10 saves.

SMSU got on the board early scoring in the 3rd minute of play. SMSU added to its lead when Corona drove in a shot in the 54th minute from Fitzgerald. The Mustangs cushioned the lead with a late goal from Fitzgerald.

The Mustangs will return to the Regional Event Center on Wednesday, Sept. 28 to host the University of Sioux Falls in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
