Montana State Billings spoils SMSU season opener

BILLINGS, Mont. –
Montana State Billings, a 2010 NCAA tournament participant, scored two first half goals and went on to earn a 3-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday in Billings, Mont.

The game was the first of the season for SMSU and marked the first regular season game under first-year head coach TJ Buchholz.

MSUB, now 2-0 on the season, was led by Heidi Greenback, who scored two goals and added an assist.

The Yellowjackets finished with 24 shots in the game, including 13 on goal. Kendra Olchefske started in goal for SMSU and suffered the loss, allowing both first half goals and making three saves. Sonya Smith played the final 45 minutes in goal making seven saves and allowing one goal.

SMSU finished with five shots in the game with three on goal. Vanesa Corona recorded two of SMSU shots on goal, while Whitney Borstad also had one shot on goal.

SMSU will conclude play tomorrow afternoon with a 5 p.m. CDT match versus Colorado Chrisitian (0-1) in Billings.
