BILLINGS, Mont. – Vanesa Corona scored in the 74th minute to snap a scoreless game and lift Southwest Minnesota State to a 1-0 victory over Colorado Christian University on Sunday in Billings, Mont.
The victory was also the first at SMSU for first-year head coach
TJ Buchholz, who was hired this past spring.

Sonya Smith, making her first career start in goal, earned the shutout, stopping eight shots on goal.
CCU (0-2) controlled play for the first half, firing off 18 shots in the opening 45 minutes, but the second half was much different as SMSU allowed just four shots, including two on goal.
SMSU will continue non-conference play on Saturday, Sept. 10, hosting St. Cloud State at 12 p.m. at the Regional Event Center.
