McKell Anderson notched her first career double-double on Saturday with 16 kills and 14 digs

McKell Anderson's 16 kills pace No. 2 Mustangs over Minnesota, Crookston

CROOKSTON, Minn. -
The Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team won its eleventh match in a row with a 3-1 match victory over Minnesota, Crookston on Saturday afternoon earning the win with set victories of  25-19, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17. McKell Anderson recorded her first career double-double as she paced the Mustangs with a match-high 16 kills, while adding 14 digs. With the win, SMSU improves to 18-1 overall, 10-1 in NSIC play, while Minnesota, Crookston drops to 8-10 overall, 4-7 in NSIC play. 

SMSU was led by freshman McKell Anderson as she recorded a match-high 16 kills to go along with her 14 digs. The performance marked Anderson's first career double-double in a Mustang uniform. Also recording a double-double in the match was teammate Emilee Gutzmer, as the freshman setter had 53 assists and 22 digs to mark her third double-double of the season. 

Brooke Burmeister was not far behind Anderson's 16 kills as the senior slammed 15 in the match, while Devin Diedrich added 11 of her own. Abbey Thissen and Mary Groth rounded out the scoring effort for SMSU as the they each had nine kills. 

SMSU was not without flaws on Saturday, the Mustangs made 25 errors in the match. Minnesota, Crookston would take advantage of nine of those errors in the second set, as the Golden Eagles took the set by a score of 25-23. 

SMSU would record a .208 attack percentage for the match, and held the Golden Eagles to just a .072 attack percentage.

The match victory was the 17th straight time the Mustangs have defeated Minnesota, Crookston. The last time UMC defeated SMSU was in 2003. 

SMSU will continue action on Tuesday, Oct. 16 as the Mustangs will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. to take on the University of Sioux Falls at 7 p.m.
