MARSHALL, Minn. – Mary Groth racked up 12 kills with zero errors, finishing with a .750 hitting percentage, to lead No. 1 Southwest Minnesota State to a 3-0 victory over Minot State in college volleyball on Saturday. SMSU won by scores of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-14.
SMSU is now 21-1 overall, 13-1 NSIC, while MiSU drops to 5-19 overall, 1-13 NSIC.
Devin Diedrich also had a solid match for the Mustangs with 10 kills and just one error to finish with a .429 hitting percentage, while Abby Thissen added nine kills on 13 attempts.
Rachel Westby led the SMSU defense with 15 digs, while
Emilee Gutzmer racked up 35 set assists and three service aces.
SMSU finished the match hitting .430 (41-7-9) and added seven total blocks.
Mallory Sall led the Beavers with 10 kills and five digs.
Southwest Minnesota State continues play next Friday, Oct. 26, at Winona State starting at 7 p.m.
