MARSHALL, Minn. - Facing an early 2-0 deficit, the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears scored three unanswered goals to stun Southwest Minnesota State 3-2 at the Regional Event Center on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, SMSU drops to 7-7-1 overall, 5-7-1 in NSIC play, while CU improves to 8-7-1 overall, 7-5-1 in NSIC play.
Megan Kilroy got the Mustangs off to a strong start as the freshman scored her first two career goals in the first half to boost SMSU to a 2-0 lead. Concordia-St. Paul would strike before half with a goal from Chloe Moore in the 36th minute to cut the lead in half.
SMSU would hold a 2-1 lead going into the half but came out flat as the Golden Bears scored in the 49th minute and 70 minute to come all the way back from 2-0 down to take the game 3-2.
With the win, Concordia-St. Paul extends its winning streak over SMSU to seven. CU outshot the Mustangs 11-3 in the second half and 19-13 in the game.
Sonya Smith made nine saves but allowed three goals in the loss to drop her record to 7-7-1 on the season.
SMSU will host its final home game of the season at the Regional Event Center this Friday, Oct. 26, versus Augustana. The game is slated for 7 p.m.
