WINONA, Minn. - Brooke Burmeister recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs to lead No. 1 Southwest Minnesota State to a 3-0 victory over Winona State on Friday night. SMSU won by scores of 27-25, 25-15, 25-16.
SMSU improves to 22-1 overall, 14-1 NSIC, while WSU drops to 18-7, 10-5 NSIC.
Mary Groth and Abby Thissen each recorded 11 kills for the Mustangs, while
McKell Anderson added six kills and 12 digs.
Emilee Gutzmer also had a double-double with 36 assists and 10 digs.
With her fourth kill of the night,
Mary Groth notched her 1500th career kill in a Mustang uniform. Groth joins teammate
Devin Diedrich in the 1500th kill club as both players have reached the milestone this season.
SMSU continues to suffocate opponents as the Mustangs held the Warriors to a .084 hitting percentage while forcing 19 errors.
SMSU will continue play tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. with a match at Upper Iowa.
