MARSHALL, Minn. - The Augustana Vikings snapped an eleven game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Friday night at the Regional Event Center. With the loss the Mustangs fall below .500 for the first time all season as their record is now 7-8-1 overall, 5-8-1 in the NSIC. The Vikings improve to 5-10-2 overall, 4-8-2 in NSIC play.
The Mustangs couldn't muster any offensive play on a chilly night in Marshall as the Mustangs were shutout for the fifth time this season. Augustana's goalkepper, Ashley Limmer picked up her first win of the season as she made four saves in the winning effort to improve her season record to 1-6-0.
Augustana would break the 0-0 tie in the 33rd minute as Sierra Erickson booted a ball past SMSU's
Kristy Leopold for her first goal of the season. Augustana would take the 1-0 lead into the half.
The Vikings would strike quickly in the second half with a Mackenzie Trom goal in the 49th minute assisted from Kara Bartels.
Augustana would hold onto the lead and wind up with the 2-0 victory. SMSU was outshot in the contest 17-9.
Kristy Leopold made 12 saves in her first start in a Mustang uniform.
SMSU will conclude the regular season on Sunday as the Mustangs travel to take on the Wayne State Wildcats at 1 p.m.
