SMSU OPENS SEASON ON THURSDAY
The Southwest Minnesota State University (0-0, 0-0 NSIC) football team opens the 2012 season on Thursday, Aug. 30, hosting No. 2 ranked and preseason Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference favorite Minnesota Duluth (0-0, 0-0 NSIC).  Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at Mattke Field at the Regional Event Center (3,000) in Marshall. 

UMD has appeared in four straight NCAA playoffs, including winning a pair (2008 and 2010) of NCAA championships.  In the last four seasons, UMD has racked up an overall record of 52-5, including 38-2 in NSIC games.
