BISMARCK, N.D. - The Southwest Minnesota State soccer team fell to the University of Mary 3-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Marauders improved to 2-2 overall, 2-0 in the NSIC while the Mustangs suffered their first loss of the season as they dropped to 3-1 overall, 1-1 in the NSIC.
The University of Mary came out fast with two Michelle Jones goals in the first six minutes. The Marauders would add a goal off a penalty kick in the 28th minute from Alex Williams-Bachman to push the lead to 3-0. University of Mary held SMSU scoreless in the first half as the Marauders took a 3-0 lead into the half.
In the second half, SMSU made a comeback with two
Kendahl Fisher goals, her third and fourth of the year. The Mustangs had their chances late, but shots from
Miranda Cadena and
Kylee Nolan didn't find the back of the net for the game tying goal.
Kendahl Fisher led the Mustangs with two goals on three shots, while
Miranda Cadena had three shots and recorded an assist.
Sonya Smith made five saves while allowing three goals en route to her first loss of the season.
SMSU will continue NSIC action tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Minot, N.D as the Mustangs take on Minot State.
