SMSU travels to Sioux Falls to renew battle with No. 25 USF and begin NSIC South Division play

MUSTANGS FACE USF IN FIRST-EVER MEETING AS NSIC MEMBERS IN REGIONALLY TELEVISED GAME
The Southwest Minnesota State University (1-3, 1-3 NSIC) football team concludes a two-game road swing on Saturday, Sept. 29, taking on No. 25 University of Sioux Falls (4-0, 4-0 NSIC) at Bob Young Field in Sioux Falls, S.D.  It will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools as members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and also marks the first NSIC South Division game of the season for both teams.  The game will be televised regionally on NBC affiliate KDLT-TV out of Sioux Falls, S.D.  

LAST WEEK
Southwest Minnesota State dropped its second straight game with a 33-28 road loss to Minnesota, Crookston.  UMC held a 33-14 lead after three quarters, before SMSU scored twice in the fourth to trim the deficit to 33-28.  UMC then sealed the game picking up two third-down conversions on its next drive to run the clock out and snap a 39-game conference-losing streak.  Warren Matthews rushed for a team-high 139 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries, while Gannon Moore rushed for 69 yards and one touchdown on 10 attempts, while also catching 10 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown.  SMSU committed three turnovers in the game with Tyler Peschong intercepted twice.

The University of Sioux Falls moved to 4-0 with a 21-5 home victory over Bemidji State.  The Cougars defense limited BSU to just 210 yards and 11 first downs, while also scoring a defensive touchdown.  Carrington Hanna caught a game-high six passes for 87 yards with teammate Jeremiah Oates adding three receptions for 84 yards and one touchdown.  Linebacker Nick Bonte had a big game with 10 tackles, four for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery, one interception and one forced fumble.
