MARSHALL, Minn – After a four game road trip, the Southwest Minnesota State soccer team returned to the Regional Event Center with a 4-0 win over Minnesota, Crookston on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs scored a season-high four goals to improve to 5-3 overall, 3-3 in NSIC play, while Minnesota, Crookston fell to 0-8-1 overall, 0-5-1 in NSIC play.
In the first half, the Mustangs exploded out of the gate with an aggressive attack that led to a foul inside the box on SMSU's
Miranda Cadena in the third minute.
Autumn Hayes would take the penalty kick and convert on her third goal of the season. The Mustangs would strike again in the 36th minute with a
Kayla Williams goal, assisted from
Brittney Bravo. SMSU would take a 2-0 lead into the half
In the second half, the Mustangs would score two more goals to secure a 4-0 victory over Minnesota, Crookston.
Kylee Nolan scored her second goal of the season in the 60th minute, assisted by
Kendahl Fisher. Less than three minutes later,
Brittney Bravo would find the back of the net, assisted by
Demi Rorvick.
Sonya Smith and
Kristy Leopold combined for SMSU's fourth shutout of the season. Leopold entered in the game in the 76th minute to relieve
Sonya Smith for the first time this season.
The Mustangs will be in action tomorrow afternoon as they will host the Bemidji State Beavers at the Regional Event Center in Marshall, starting at 1 p.m.
