ROLLA, Mo. - No. 3 Southwest Minnesota State swept Southern Indiana on Friday afternoon in the first match of the Missouri S&T tournament to improve to 4-0 on the season. SMSU made quick work of USI (0-5) in three sets, 25-19, 25-19, and 25-20.
McKell Anderson led the Mustangs with 11 kills while
Mary Groth and
Abbey Thissen both contributed with 10 kills.
Emilee Gutzmer recorded 39 assists and
Rachel Westby led the Mustangs with 12 digs. SMSU used 11 blocks to slow down the USI offensive attack. Collectively, SMSU recorded 45 kills on a .264 hitting percentage.
Southwest Minnesota State will return to action later this afternoon in a tilt with Missouri Western State (5-0). SMSU will begin play early Saturday morning with a match against Emporia State at 9 a.m. and will closeout the tournament with a meeting with Northwest Missouri State at 1 p.m.
